LOCATION

Cinnamon Heights Estate is a former cinnamon and tea plantation on a privately owned hill.

• Elevation: 35 - 45 m above surrounding tea land
• View: 10 km west (= sunset, beach), 20 km south (= Galle hills), 25 km north-west (Ambalangoda), 30 - 60 km east (Singharaja etc.) 
• 10 km from the sandy beaches of Hikkaduwa  
• 200 m off the Gin Ganga river (a glimpse visible from plot D)

 

 

Perfectly connected

• 18 km from Galle and Galle Fort - the "hot" spot of the south. It takes you approx. 34 minutes by car on a low traffic country road through beautiful landscapes along the river.
• 9.7 km from Hikkaduwa Beaches - the perfect place for swimming, surfing and restaurant hopping. A 20 minute low traffic drive through rice fields and villages.
• 5.7 km from the Expressway access point - and 120 minutes later you are in the centre of Colombo (= 100 km).
• Direct Expressway connection to airport (112 minutes, 135 km). You enter the Expressway in Baddegama (6 km from your villa).

 

For daily needs: 3 km to Baddegama

The closest supermarket (RTS chain) you'll find at the Sandarawala Junction, 2 km from your house. More "fancy" choice will be offered by Cargills in Baddegama (5 min. by car). In this small town you also find several banks, pharmacies, petrol stations, all kinds of shops, workshops, fruit stalls, bakeries, local restaurants, a small department store, a major bus stand, and the weekly Sunday Market.

You can rent a nice car for your stay!

Don't worry about driving in Sri Lanka. It's easy and not dangerous because the average speed is 30 km/h.

We'll arrange a short introduction to the few unwritten Sri Lanka driving rules (shown in real traffic by a foreign expat). Thereafter you'll feel - and be! - perfectly safe.

Through our partners from Malkey Car Rental (leading in Sri Lanka) we provide a decent rental car - e.g. Suzuki Celerio (automatic) for 11 US$ per day (as of December 2023). Everybody (!) can drive a car like that!

Additional benefits: 

• Driver picks you up at airport - and drops you there
• You get a Sri Lanka driving permit (you need this in addition to your international driver's license)
• Driver brings you from airport to Cinnamon Heights Estate
• Optional driving lessons if you want to get accustomed to Sri Lankan traffic slowly. By the way: even elderly ladies got used to local traffic after a few hours of practise!

We provide a local driver if you don't want to drive certain routes (e.g. in Colombo). Expect to pay only 20 USD per day for a driver.

 

Independence by tuk tuk

We call a tuk-tuk (threewheeler) if you need one. Pricing will be according to price list. You won't get cheated and don't need to negotiate with any outsider drivers spoilt be their history of overcharging foreigners.

 

 Buy an ebike

Just like in the west, you can purchase electric vehicles from tiny push-bike style to scooters. No driver's license required for battery powered vehicles.
